Common Egress Window Questions

Do I need an egress window?

If you plan on finishing your basement into a living space such as  bed room, living room, or game room. It is required to have a entry or exit in every room, large enough to escape quickly in the event of an emergency. Egress windows provide this means of escape for your family or entry for firefighters, emergency crews or medical personnel.

Do you obtain the building permit or do we have too?

We obtain the building permit and it is included in our egress window packages., The city building inspector will be checking for the proper high of the window and well, along with checking that all the proper building codes have been met.

Does it take a long time to install an egress window?

It typically takes about 1 day from start to finish to install your new egress window unit. If you have multiple windows or upgrade to a timber well, it may require an additional day to complete.

Can you install an egress window in a finished basement?

Yes we can , Typically either in a existing window location or in a new location with a header so your design possibilities are unlimited. We tent off the interior section for dust control and remove all construction debris. Once window is installed , inspected and signed off by the city inspector your egress window is ready to be finished. Check our page for window trim packages sold separately

How deep does my egress window well need to be?

Depending on how far above and below grade your window will sit, your well can be between 3-5 feet deep and 64inches wide by 36 inches in projection, these dimensions meet the egress window well requirements.
